Mr. C: "I'm excited about the new singing track"
Date Created: Thursday, October 13, 2011

Ryan Cayabyab
Needs no introduction. The Artistic Director of 7101 Music Nation.
Q: What are your impressions on the applicants this year?
MR. C: “Very well screened. What I like about them is that a lot of them are first-timers. Most of these guys have never auditioned before, they’ve never sang in front of an audition panel, and they’re not the type who are out to be famous. The applicants that i’ve heard so far are really non-musicians. We’ve had Physics majors and people from other courses apply, and some of them sing in choirs or in bands, however what i can say is that all of them really want to learn. It’s not like they’re in here because they want to be famous, because obviously we are not a contest - we are a camp. So, i think they are in this because they want to get something out of the Camp and bring it back to their choir or to their groups. Maybe in the back of their minds they want to be famous or rich, but i really didn’t feel that it was their main objective”.
Q: Are you excited about the new singing track this year?
MR. C: “Yes. But of course after this year, we will review it to see if it’s a good mix. Since it’s a new track i’m excited, but after that we have to lay it down on the table to see if it’s a good track.”
Q: What is your message to the people who want to apply and to those who made the live auditions?
MR. C: “Just have an open mind, be sponges and good receptors of ideas, because that is what it’s all about. We’ll throw in a lot of ideas and experiences and a lot of knowledge born out of the experience of being musicians and performers. So, have an open-mind and be generous with your talents and share it with other people.”
